I recommend watching the video at the bottom where Yaron Brook fully explains what is happening. However, the shorter version is that the left has taken the Marxist concept of equivocating economic power with political power, and has applied it to every human relationship.
In politics, one of the essential questions is, when is it justified to use physical force against a person, to coerce or compel them to do something? Objectivist/Capitalist and libertarian theory holds that it is only justified to use force in retaliation, meaning that if someone is initiating physical force on you or your property you are justified to retaliate with force. Otherwise, if no one is coercing you with some type of violence or fraud, you need to leave them free. Since the government is the entity that holds the power to use force, it is considered as political power, the use of force to coerce someone’s behavior.
The left wants to believe they are for freedom, who doesn’t right? Most people want to believe they are on the good side. The left says they are for women’s right to choose, for gay’s right to marry, ect. But what about economic rights? The left justifies the violation of economic rights by equivocating it to political power or physical force. This a Marxist concept, or a concept that Marx stole to be more accurate. Marx argued that people that are in a better economic position than you, hold coercive power over you, and thus this justifies retaliation.
Economic power is of course not exercised by the means of physical force, it is exercised by the means offering a reward, a value in exchange for the presumed behavior.
The new left has seized this idea and are equivocating any type of advantage in all aspects of life to political power. According to them, any real or perceived advantage can be justifiably corrected by force, because such advantages according to them are coercive. Hence, while they are the ones initiating physical force, violating freedoms, in their own minds, they still believe that they are the ones who are pro-freedom and pro-rights.
Are you white, are you a male? If yes, then you have white privilege or male privilege, societal advantages that ought to be corrected, by force if necessary. They have developed an entire formula for calculating your level of privilege against another person, based on yours and theirs characteristics. This formula is referred to as intersectionalism. If most of this sounds rather arbitrary to you, you are correct, it is. It is impossible to calculate or know any of the things they claim. Yet this is the rationalization that in their minds, justifies their actions.
So to answer the original question, why does the new left seem like they want to control all aspects of our lives now? Because they do.
